Self-Care Habits for a Better Life

We live in a busy and fast-paced world constantly focusing our attention on anything but us. And it’s hard to argue that self-care is really a huge part that is missing in our lives.

What is self-care and why is it important?

Self-care is everything you do for your mental, physical and emotional health. Yes, it sounds quite simple but most of us pay little attention to it. Self-care is important to keep a healthy relationship with yourself because it gives rise to positive feelings and bumps up your confidence and self-esteem. It is necessary to remind yourself and people around you that you and your needs are important too.

Be a healthy eater

Your diet is that aspect of self-care that you should worry about first as it is the key to a happy, healthy and long-lasting life. Healthy and nutritious food is the greatest nature’s gift to us so please don’t ignore it. Make a habit out of eating healthy, eating green and consuming good foods that build your body.
I prefer to eat healthy and nutritious food 5 times a day. This schedule helps me avoid hunger during the day. Sometimes I allow myself junk food. Of course it happens! But everything within due limits.

Be physically active

Physical activity is also a great part of self-care. It’s not a secret that our body and mind have a unique connection. And it’s rather difficult to be in a good mood without being in harmony with your body. When you exercise for self-care, you should choose an activity that is the best suited to you and your feelings. It can be anything you wish: dance, swimming, running, etc. If everybody around is keen on strength exercises and you are the one who doesn’t like them, it doesn’t mean that you should do them too. Choose the activity that makes you feel alive.
As for me, I workout 3 times a week. It helps me keep fit and be healthy.

Sleep enough

People think for some reason that sleep is something we can make sacrifice of. We spend so much time working, surfing the Internet or just scrolling Instagram feed and very little time sleeping. Remember, your every night sleep should last 6-8 hours. It is enough for your body to have a rest and renew.
I try to go to bed at about 10 p.m and wake up at 6.30-7.00 a.m. I prefer to keep early hours as I have much time to do everything I need during the day.

Live, not just exist

Different problems and responsibilities are what we deal with everyday. But you should remember that self-care is also your responsibility of great importance. Little things that make you feel better like starting everyday with a book or having an evening bubble bath are essential for your daily happiness. Don’t forget about them.

Say NO to negative thoughts

Sometimes and before we can even think about it, we pay too much attention to the negatives and at the same time we don’t appreciate all the beauty around us. When something bad happens, most likely we remember how upset we feel by the situation and how we are hurt. We somehow forget all the positive moments that this situation brought to us. Try to hold all the good memories even if the unpleasant ones try to absorb your mind. Be grateful for everything that life gifts you.

Whatever you do, you do for yourself

All have their self-care principles that perfectly work for them. Our motivation, inspiration and mindset differ from each other. Set your mind to the things that make you smile and feel alive. Be in harmony with yourself and live your best life.

Here is a small list of habits that will definitely make you feel better every day:

  • Take a break if you need it
  • Choose carefully who you spend time with
  • Laugh at least once a day
  • Meditate for some minutes
  • Stop overthinking

And of course, don’t forget whatever you do, you do for yourself!
