Common Skinсare Mistakes

In the early ages you don’t think about the importance of skincare routine. But as you get older, it’s your skin that changes with age first. The sooner you begin to take care of it mindfully, the better for you. But what if you are doing something wrong? Let’s take a look at the most common skincare habits.

You do what your girlfriend does

We are all different so is our skincare. The products used by your girlfriend may not work perfectly for you because your skin type may be absolutely different. An in the result it can lead to serious problems with your skin.

You forget about neck and décolleté

It’s not a secret that neck and décolleté grow older first. That’s why you should take a proper care of them too, be it morning or night routine. Remember, ALWAYS.

You don’t pay attention to your nighttime hygiene

Under this I want to advise you to change your pillow cases at least once a week. Or if you are prone to acne, you can do it more often. Try to wash them in hot water to kill off all the dust mites that can cause allergies.
If you don’t want to have perimeter breakouts due to the long hair and oily products you use on them, pull your hair off your face.
Here I also should mention that if you sleep on a cotton pillow, you’d better change it to a silk one as silk minimizes permanent creases.

You over-exfoliate

It seems to be very damaging in the long term. When you remove the protective barrier of your skin, it gets more exposed to sun rays and environmental toxins. If you don’t want your skin grow old fast, avoid over-exfoliating.
Some people with oily skin also think that if they exfoliate with different scrubs they will get rid of the skin oiliness. But you should remember when you over-scrub your skin, the oil production actually speeds up because skin’s natural recovery mechanism is put into overdrive.
Two or three times a week is enough for exfoliation.

You forget about your hands too

Hands together with neck and décolleté age quite fast. It’s important to apply a good moisturizer on them. If you don’t have any particular hand cream, you can use the residues of the product you use on your face.

You think toner is a step of cleansing

Toner always follows cleanser in your skincare routine and it is not the second step of cleansing. Actually the skin must be cleansed before applying the toner. And a cleanser should have the right ingredients like antioxidants for protection and salicylic acid to help clear your pores.

You apply products in the wrong order

This rule somehow connected with the previous one as applying products in the wrong order, even if they seem the most effective for you, can cause different problems with your skin. There is a general rule to apply products with a thinner consistency before the thicker ones. The creamier products can block the work of products with thinner consistency.

You go to bed with your makeup on

I think it is the most common wrong habit we all do sometimes. But if you don’t remove makeup for night, your face pores and oil glands are clogged. This process on a daily basis will lead to inflammation.

You use dirty makeup brushes

If you keep your brushes clean every day, it will ensure your skin with no dust, dirt and old makeup.

You constantly pop pimples

Who does that? Of course, we all. But is still not the best idea. If you pop pimples by yourself, I mean not at the dermatologist’s, it can cause infections which will go down deeper into the pore and lead to skin problems.

You over-use all of your products

Together with over-exfoliation, over-scrubbing, over-creaming and over-cleansing also affects your skin’s natural protective barrier. For example, the evening cleanser removes dirt, oil and daily makeup. But when you sleep, your skin produces oils that hydrate and balance your skin, so they shouldn’t be washed away in the morning. Just buff your skin with a wet cotton washcloth in the morning instead of another round of cleanser.

You don’t wear sunscreen everyday

Remember, using sunscreen is not just for the beach. If you want your skin grow old more slowly, use a good sunscreen defense. It should have an SPF of 30 and higher. You’d better apply it not only on your face but also on your chest and hands.

You touch your face too often

We all know this rule but constantly continue doing that. Remember, every time you touch your skin, you cause damage and create irritation. You’d better stop.

You don’t get a proper sleep

If you want your skin look its best, get a proper sleep. If you have a lack of sleep, your skin becomes dull and pale, you get stress and generate free radicals. We all know that you don’t need them at all.

You don’t eat enough veggies

I’ve said many times before that healthy and balanced food is everything concerning your health and your body. The more colorful vegetables you eat, the better. For example, eat red cabbage, green lettuce and so on.

You don’t know what you are applying

Before buying a certain product for your skincare, carefully examine its ingredients, what skin type it is used for, etc. Your skin won’t be perfect if you don’t know what you are applying. And remember, price doesn’t always mean quality.

We all make mistakes sometimes. Even if we speak about skincare. But the earlier we understand that we are doing something wrong, the better. Educate yourself, look for the information, don’t buy products thoughtlessly because in the very end it will work against you.

And remember, whatever you do, you do it for yourself!
