Be your own standard
Let’s talk about body positivity, because honestly I feel like this topic gets twisted so often, and I want to make it very clear what it means for me. For me body positivity is not about ignoring your health or convincing yourself that you don’t need any progress. It’s the complete opposite. It’s about having a healthy, respectful, loving relationship with your body. It’s about waking up every morning and choosing yourself, not someone else’s expectations.
For me body positivity means loving your body in every version of it — even when you feel tired, even when you’re not in the “best” shape, even when life gets chaotic and sport or healthy habits are not on the top of your list. Self-love is not something you earn after you change. It’s something that helps you change in the first place.
But at the same time body positivity doesn’t mean staying the same forever. I truly believe that our bodies have incredible potential and it’s such a shame not to use it. I don’t think loving yourself and wanting to improve yourself are opposites. They actually go together. When you love your body, you give it movement, good food, rest, care, discipline. You don’t punish it with extreme diets or guilt. You don’t try to look like someone else. You just try to be a better version of yourself — healthier, stronger, more confident.
I also think it’s extremely important not to let others define how you “should” look. People will always have opinions, no matter what shape you are in. Too skinny, too curvy, too muscular, not muscular enough. It’s endless. And honestly, it’s not our job to fit into anyone’s standards. My only standard is how I feel in my own skin. Am I proud of how I treat my body today? Am I consistent with things that make me feel good? That’s the only measurement I trust.
So for me body positivity is simple: be proud of yourself, take care of yourself, don’t compare, don’t listen to judgmental noise, and always choose progress — but progress for YOU, not for Instagram, not for strangers, not for trends. You deserve to feel good in your body every day, and the best thing is that you can actually create this feeling yourself.
