Recently I have been receiving so many warm compliments about my shape after giving birth, and I want to say a sincere thank you to everyone. Along with those kind words, I also get a very common question: is it possible to lose weight in a specific area of the body? My answer is always the same and very simple — no. This idea is one of the most persistent fitness myths, but the body simply does not work that way.

Weight loss occurs when we create a calorie deficit. In other words, when we burn more calories than we consume. To reach this state, you do not need to follow an extreme diet or restrict yourself in unhealthy ways. A balanced, nutritious approach combined with regular physical activity is enough. Cardio remains the most effective way to increase calorie expenditure and speed up fat loss.

However, even when we do everything correctly — eat well, stay active, and include cardio — the body loses fat as a whole system, not selectively. We cannot decide that we want to burn fat only from the stomach, thighs, arms or any other area. Fat reduction happens according to individual genetics, hormones and overall body composition.

This brings me to another important point: why workouts matter. Cardio helps burn fat, but it does very little for muscle strength or tone. To build a strong, balanced and aesthetically shaped body, we need to engage our muscles through targeted exercises. While you cannot choose where to lose fat, you definitely can choose which muscles to strengthen and highlight. Working consistently on a specific area helps shape it, improve its tone and create the look you want once the fat layer gradually decreases.

I hope this gives you a clear understanding of how the process really works. Visible changes require time, patience and steady effort. Consistency is the key to long-term results, and every small step you take will bring you closer to the body you want.
