Choosing your cardio
Cardio is something we all hear about, but I feel many women still underestimate how much it can change the way you feel in your body. It isn’t just about burning calories or chasing some number. Cardio keeps your heart strong, keeps your lungs working the way they should, and gives you that natural, steady energy that no coffee can ever replace. And honestly, when you find the kind of movement that fits your personality and your lifestyle, it becomes one of the easiest healthy habits to maintain.
I always say that the best cardio is the one you’ll actually do. Not the one that sounds impressive, not the one that everyone else is posting about, but the one that feels natural to you. If walking clears your mind, let it be walking. If you enjoy the rhythm of running or the calm of swimming, go for that. If you need something dynamic, maybe dancing or aerobics will keep you motivated. The point is to choose something you don’t have to force yourself into every time.
When you decide what you want to start with, create a simple structure around it. A warm-up is always a must, even if it’s just five minutes of light movement. Your body needs a moment to wake up before you give it a load, and this one small habit will protect you from unnecessary injuries. The same goes for a proper cooldown — it lets your muscles return to their natural state and keeps them flexible, so the next day you don’t wake up feeling sore for no reason.
If you’re just starting, don’t push yourself with long sessions. Let your body adapt. After a few weeks of consistency — not perfection, simply consistency — you’ll begin to feel that your stamina is different. That’s the moment you can increase the duration or intensity a little. It should feel like a natural progression, not a punishment.
Cardio doesn’t have to be extreme to be effective. What matters is that you show up for yourself, move your body regularly, and make it a part of your lifestyle. That’s how you begin to feel stronger, lighter, more balanced — not only physically but mentally too.
