Anguilla travel diary
As I promised, I’m going to tell you about Anguilla. Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the Eastern Caribbean. There’s a list of countries that need a visa to Anguilla – you can find it on the official website of Anguilla’s embassy. But the exceptions are the USA residents. Even if you need a visa but you have a valid green card, you can easily book the tickets. On the entry, all you’ll need to do is to show your passport and green card.
How to get to Anguilla? Actually, we didn’t find any direct flights. You can fly with a transfer at nearest islands (Puerto-Rico, for example) or fly to Sint Maarten and then get to Anguilla on the boat (we chose this option). The port is placed next to the airport on the Dutch side of the island just as the airport (again, USA residents don’t need a visa). The boat trip is about 30 min ride. It’s a little bit bumpy but also very fun and beautiful.
Local people are very friendly. We have been to many Caribbean islands, but Anguilla at once surprised us with its hospitality. And, of course, Anguilla is famous for its beaches with perfect white sand and water of amazing blue color. As far as we are experienced travellers who don’t really enjoy just sitting on the hotels beach, we had to choose between two options: to spend time in jungles with not to exciting beaches or to visit very beautiful beaches without so much greenery. As you can see, we’ve chosen the beaches for this time. There are so many of them and they all are so beautiful.
We stay in Belmond hotel – it’s believed that the beach of this hotel is one of the most beautiful ones in the whole world. And really, this is the biggest hotel beach we’ve ever seen. The sand, the sea and the lack of people are the most important things. The hotel rooms are stylised like villas, and each villa has its own access to the beach. We still have to discover if it’s the most beautiful beach because we have plans to explore the island more, to get to know the local culture and to find our own cozy corner on it. So, stay tuned
